Books I Love- Day 4

I love John Green as a writer. I’ve read 5 of his novels now, and I’ve liked each one, but this one is my favorite one.

I have anxiety. And it shows up in some pretty specific ways. Being touched. Medical procedures. Social interaction. It comes from specific places in my past experience. Everyone’s anxiety doesn’t present or feel the same, but when I read this book, even though my anxiety doesn’t look or feel exactly like Aza’s does…boy this book really nailed what the experience of anxiety is like a lot of the time.

And the tender, innocent love story in this book really touched me. I won’t spoil the plot here, because I want everyone to read this book, but there is a part (paraphrasing here) where Aza’s love interest writes about her in a way he knows she will read it and he says something like, ‘Who cares if she can’t kiss? She could see the stars behind the clouds.’

Isn’t that what we all really want in love? Any kind of love? For somebody to look beyond all of our can’t’s and deficiencies and see all our best can’s and assets? Damn, it’s what I want.

As always, if you don’t read this book, or John Green, I hope you read something else new you haven’t tried yet or something you know you love over again. And if you want to give my work a shot, here it is.

  1. I’ve kinda given up on John Green, his books never pay off for me. I might have to give this one ago! Great post xo

    1. I think the ‘pay off’ of books is different for everyone. My taste isn’t everyone’s taste. That’s for sure. I’m just telling people what I like. They don’t have to like it too. 🙂
