So it’s been a while since I’ve put out a new novel. And this is November, National Novel Writing Month.
Writers are challenged to write a 50K word manuscript between November 1 (yesterday) and November 30. I’m a pretty prolific writer. And I have several works in progress that I want to and plan to expand into novel form, including 3 sought after (I can’t even believe I’m typing that) sequels to previous novels I’ve written.
I’ve been in a bit of a fiction slump for a while now. Lit actually took a lot out of me. I still want people to buy that book. And any of my other ones. I don’t play favorites.
So I’m asking for a bit of help.
Normally, just J asking me if I wrote anything new that day is enough of a motivator to get the shit swirling around in my head into a saved word processing file and do something with it, but even that’s not getting the job done for the past couple of months. I think it would be helpful to have some more accountability. I doubt I’ll ever be brave enough to market myself in any kind of real way to a ‘real’ publisher. And self-publishing is great for me. I don’t HAVE to support myself and make lots of money from my work, and self-publishing lets me have complete creative control of the stories I want to tell. But the drawback of that is…it lets me be undisciplined. I don’t have a deadline to make. I don’t have an editor calling me to check on story progress. I like those things. If I have them ‘for real,’ I’m sure they would drive some pretty powerful anxiety. But I do have readers. And some of you are pretty eager to get your hands on some new material or continuations of stories you loved (again…just…I can’t believe that is a real thing I am writing here…but there it is).
So if you’d like to drop me a line this month, I can be contacted at the email address here, and help me stay motivated. And maybe…if this works (I hope it works)…I’ll have a new novel ready to push out to publishing just in time for holiday shopping.
This will sort of be like your gift to me. And then hopefully, I can reciprocate that by putting out some new, quality work for you to read.
Thank you, as always, to everyone who reads, purchases, promotes, and loves my work.
